At Kids Dental we use state-of-the-art Digital Radiographs. Digital x-rays take high-quality images that can even identify cavities in the early stages. Cavities in these early stages can sometimes heal with proper oral hygiene and dietary care. Digital x-rays can also help identify many other things including: extra teeth, gum disease, missing teeth, tumors, poor eruption path of permanent teeth, etc.
Benefits of Digital X-rays
- Provide the highest quality diagnostic images
- Help to visualize cavities and other unseen problems
- Are immediately viewable
- Result in 80% less radiation exposure vs. traditional dental x-rays
Radiation from Dental Radiographs
We are exposed to radiation as a part of our natural environment. Some parents find it helpful to understand how dental x-rays compare to our daily radiation exposure. Here are some examples comparing the radiation exposure from dental x-rays to other sources of radiation:
- 620 mrem/year: Average Annual Exposure per Person
- 240 mrem/year: Radiation from food, water, and air
- 65 mrem/year: Cosmic & Terrestrial Radiation for Coeur d’Alene Residents
- 7 mrem/year: Living in a brick home
- 2.5 mrem: Flight from Seattle to New York
- 200 mrem: CT Head Scan
- 10 mrem: Chest X-Ray
- 0.5 mrem: Dental X-Ray
